Abstract
Building on the autoethnographic methodology I developed in My Life With Things: The Consumer Diaries (Duke 2016) this emergent project explores racial heritage through a process of making-thinking-writing. Piecing together histories of migration, labor, and settlement, the work stitches a quilt whose fabrics come from family heirlooms. The associated writing, too, is a patchwork. A meditation on U.S. racial politics, global systems, dispossessions and inheritance, this project also digs into the seams of ethnographic understanding and production.
