SAC Stands with AAPI Community

The Stanford Archaeology Center stands in solidarity with the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Community and condemns all acts of anti-Asian violence and discrimination.  From March 2020 until February 2021, @StopAAPIHate has documented nearly 3800 anti-Asian incidents, which is likely only a fraction of hate incidents that actually occurred.  We are devastated by the recent rising anti-Asian racism, especially toward elders and women, and we are saddened by the distress, fear, pain, and suffering experienced by the community.

We recognize that the anti-Asian violence in the U.S. stems back to the 1800s and that there has been a long history of housing, economic, and employment discrimination.  Asian Americans have been an active force in combating racism not only toward the AAPIs, but also Black, Indigenous, and other marginalized communities and we commend their efforts.  We stand together with the AAPI community and join their collective voices in demanding action and change.
